CCGA Child and Youth Advisory Group

The CCGA is steered by a Child and Youth Advisory Group (CYAG) – a collection of young GDTNB children who provide invaluable insight, commentary, information and guidance to the CCGA.

We believe:

Children aren’t just like toys that belong to their parents, who decide everything for them. They’re special people with their own rights.

Children and young people know a lot about their own lives. They’ve experienced things and learned stuff that’s unique to them. Because of this, they can teach adults things they might not know and help them see things in new ways.

Just like grown-ups, children and young people should be able to share their thoughts when decisions are being made that affect them directly.

When we make plans for children and young people, those plans work better if the children themselves are involved in making and doing them.

“Children have the right to say what they think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect them and to have their opinions taken into account.”

Article 12, United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child

What our CYAG have to say

“First of all, I am a person. Is there anything more important than that?”
Cody
“I really want to go to school,
But school is sometimes tricky.
Like when I wear my uniform,
It makes me feel so icky.
Not because it’s scratchy,
Or I feel it on my skin.
More because of something,
That’s happening within.”
Marionette
“Nothing has changed, you just shouldn’t have guessed. I am still that ‘he’, just with an ‘s’”
Teddy
